WARREN — A 37-year-old Warren man was sentenced to 21 years in prison for three crimes in May and June in Niles, involving an assault on a former girlfriend and two kidnappings and robberies at a restaurant where he once worked.
Donald J. Fisher, of 1450 Niles Cortland Road, pleaded guilty in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to six charges that could have landed him in prison for up to 58 years.
Several of the charges pertained to Fisher’s breaking into a former girlfriend’s house on Mason Street in Niles in mid-June, demanding money from her, choking her, tying her up and hitting her with a ceramic vase, said Chuck Morrow, an assistant county prosecutor.
He then took the woman’s car. The woman suffered a cut on her head and a concussion.
Other charges relate to two robberies at Oven Fresh Pizza, 401 Vienna Avenue, Niles.
He used a box cutter while robbing the restaurant the first time, on May 18, and took money from the cash register and safe, police said. He got around $1,500.
He hit the same store June 15 and again used a box cutter, taking about $250. But this time employees recognized Fisher as a former employee, police said.
In both Oven Fresh Pizza robberies, Fisher ordered an employee to get into the cooler before he left, police said.
