Credit union robbery suspect kills himself
YOUNGSTOWN — Robbery suspect Donnell R. Weekley died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound roughly four hours after a holdup at the Cavalier Federal Credit Union, 2255 Salt Springs Road in Lordstown, police said.
The robbery took place around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday and the suspects fled to a house in the 500 block of Breaden Street, where Donnelly, 25, shot himself about four hours later, said John Stoll, FBI supervisory agent. Members of the FBI/Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force had surrounded the house.
Stoll said the U.S. Marshals Service had a warrant for Weekley, unrelated to the credit union robbery, and had been searching two days for him.
In addition to the FBI, Lordstown police and the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department were working on the case, Stoll said.
The credit union is located in a sparsely populated area between Bailey Road and Tod Avenue.
