State commission scraps plan for building new Rayen School
YOUNGSTOWN — There will not be a brand-new Rayen School in the city of Youngstown.
The Ohio School Facilities Commission, which is picking up 80 percent of a nearly $200 million school rebuilding program in Youngstown, has withdrawn its financial support for a new Rayen School, which was to be a middle school, citing enrollment decline.
“There will be a Rayen School, just not a brand new building,” said Shelley Murray, school board president.
The district is working on a plan to put a Rayen middle school in the current central board of education offices at 20 W. Wood St., which was the original Rayen School in the city.
