Austintown JWL updates Children Services room

YOUNGSTOWN — Austintown Junior Women’s League recently revamped a family visitation room for Mahoning County Children Services on West Federal Street.

According to Cathy Gagliardi, chief supervisor of the Family Services Department, the room is used for client intake, supervised family and foster care visits, and final parental termination meetings.

Co-chaired by Diane Borovitcky and Linda Gillespie, other AJWL members participating were Beky Davis, Vicki Gleydura, Cary Horvath, Donna Litch, Theresa Lyden and Jane Polish. They worked with Donna Saadey of Studio One Interior Design on the project.

Have breakfast with Santa

GREENFORD — Greenford Christian Church on Lisbon Road is sponsoring a Breakast With Santa as a benefit for Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society from 8 a.m. to noon Dec. 6. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, fruit cup and a breakfast beverage will be served, and the cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children.

Children will have the opportunity to visit with Santa and to receive a free 4x6 photo, goody bag, craft and frame. There will be a raffle for such things as an Elmo Live toy, bicycles and gift baskets. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling (330) 519-9015.

Awards presented at Lions Club meeting

CORNERSBURG — A meeting of Youngstown South Side Lions Club on Nov. 6 at the Belleria Restaurant was attended by District 13-D Governor Harold Ullman of Crestwood Lions Club, who presented a retention award and a 100 percent President’s Award to Peter Noll, president of the club, in recognition of his ability to meet all criteria and requirements of a King Lion.

Governor Bob Whited was the recipient of a Growth Award for his work in membership.

Historical society updates news about calendars

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning Valley Historical Society has produced two calendars for 2009, which are being sold for $12.95 at the museum shop at the Arms Family Museum, on the historical society Web site, www.mahoning history.org., and at (330) 743-2589.

The calendars are The Story of My House, which includes excerpts from an essay by Olive F.A. Arms and historical photos of Greystone, now the Arms Family Museum of Local History; and In Good Humor, a historical account of Harry B. Burt and his iconic Good Humor ice cream bar.
