Teacher placed on administrative leave after tip about involvement with student

STAFF REPORT

COLUMBIANA — Schools Superintendent Ron Iarussi said Monday that an investigation is under way into whether a male teacher had an inappropriate relationship with a female student.

The information came to light last week. The teacher, who is about 25, was placed on administrative leave shortly after the tip was made to a school official.

The teacher has been working at the district for one year.

Columbiana police and the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services are investigating.

The tip came through a cell phone message but the caller hasn’t been identified, Iarussi said.

If the relationship is confirmed, the superintendent said, “we would move for termination.”

Sexual conduct with students can result in a felony charge.

In a separate matter, Crestview Local school officials are still investigating whether a female teacher had engaged in improper conduct with minor female students. She has been suspended.

Superintendent John Dilling could not be reached.
