New Middletown woman injured in Struthers fire

STRUTHERS— A New Middletown woman was taken to the hospital after suffering burns to 50 percent of her body.

Heather Freed, 28, and two others were in the basement of a home on Fourth Street in Struthers just after 5 p.m. Monday, when fumes from a flammable fluid she was using caught fire.

The Struthers Fire Department said a flash fire occurred, causing third-degree burns over half of Freed’s body.

She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center on Monday evening and was transported to the Akron Children’s Hospital Burn Center today, where a report on her condition was unavailable.

No other injuries were reported and damage to the house was minimal, city fire officials said.
