Jessica Nemcik to vie for Miss Ohio Teen USA

BOARDMAN — Jessica Nemcik of Boardman will compete for the title of Miss Ohio Teen USA on Friday and Saturday at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts, on the campus of Shawnee State University in Portsmouth.

Nemcik is the daughter of Christine Weitzman Nemcik and is a junior at Boardman High School. She studies tap, lyrical and hip hop dance, plays volleyball, and participates in track and Pilates. She enjoys photography, writing poetry and baby-sitting. She also volunteers at a local nursing home and is involved with the National Kidney Foundation, helping to promote the need for donors.

The young woman who is chosen as Miss Ohio Teen USA represents Ohio in the Miss Teen USA Pageant and compete for more than $100,000 in cash and prizes.

Holiday concert is benefit

AUSTINTOWN — A holiday concert to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Austintown-Fitch High School Auditorium, 4560 Falcon Drive. Presented by the Youngstown Area Community Concert Band and the Austintown Fitch High School Jazz Ensemble, the concert is the 10th annual holiday concert to benefit the food bank.

The Fitch Jazz Band is under the direction of Wes O’Connor, and the Community Band is conducted by Joseph Pellegrini.

The admission price is $5 for students and adults and $2 for children preschool to fourth grade.

Relay for Life meeting

POLAND — The American Cancer Society has scheduled a meeting of Relay For Life in Poland for team captains and community members for 6 p.m. Thursday at Bruno’s Restaurant and Catering, 1984 Boardman-Poland. Anyone interested in learning more about Relay for Life is welcome.

The first Relay for Life for the Poland organization was in July at Poland Knights of Columbus. It was attended by 60 survivors and 12 teams. Nearly $13,000 was raised for the purpose of research, education, advocacy and services for cancer patients. Relay for Life gives cancer survivors an opportunity to join together to celebrate life.
