Address book keeps Web site passwords easily available

Dear Heloise: Here’s a hint I use. I keep an address book near my computer. I put the names, in alphabetical order, of the Web sites I frequent. Then I put my logon name and password next to the addresses of my favorite sites.

Sometimes I change my password; I mark it out with typewriter correction fluid. I have found this a great timesaver. I always know how I logged in — upper-or lowercase letters — and my password is easily available. Barbie Zobian, Wyomissing, Pa.

Keeping track of passwords for all of the Web sites we visit can be difficult. Love your hint. Heloise

Dear Readers: Here are some candle hints:

• Use a long piece of uncooked spaghetti to light candles — especially those deep in glass holders.

• Clean dusty or dingy candles with a soft cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol.

• To prevent a votive candle from getting stuck in a holder, put a little vegetable cooking spray in the holder.

• Plastic wrap or a small amount of modeling clay will steady wobbly candles. Put a piece of modeling clay inside the candleholder and then press the candle into the clay. To use plastic wrap, put it around the bottom part of the candle and then place the candle in the holder. Heloise

Dear Heloise: I make my own carpet freshener by using a plastic Parmesan-cheese (grated) container with the snap-top as a shaker. I fill it about 3‚Ñ4 full with baking soda, and for scent, I can add a few sprinkles of cinnamon or another favorite dry spice. I close the lid and shake well to mix it up. All I do is lightly sprinkle over the carpet, let sit a short while and vacuum up. A breath of fresh air! Don’t use this on light-colored carpeting, as it might stain. Georgia in San Antonio

Dear Heloise: I’ve had some success with placing sheets of newspaper between the pages of books that were slightly musty, leaving the sheets in place for a few weeks, then checking to see whether I must repeat the process. This won’t work with really bad ones, but it makes others salvageable. Barb Schmidt, Vesta, Minn.

Dear Heloise: My clay and plastic plant pots were looking plain and dull to me. So, using some long neck scarves (I seldom use), I wrapped a scarf around each of the pots like you would your neck — wow! They looked great! Arlene Schultz, Franklin, Wis.

Dear Heloise: Is there anything we can do to stop TV channels from blocking 1‚Ñ4 of the screen with their annoying advertisements? The shows end and new ads pop up already for next week! They start advertising new episodes for a show that doesn’t start for months! It drives me nuts. Thanks for your ear, Heloise. Charles in Clark, N.J.

Charles, it’s annoying, but I don’t know what to do either. Heloise
