LORDSTOWN — The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County plans a Thanksgiving Open House from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday at 545 Brunstetter Road. The league says it would be thankful if people would adopt a homeless pet. Call (330) 394-4122 or (330) 399-2086.
Thanksgiving dinner
SALEM — A free Thanksgiving dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St.
The dinner is open to all area residents who have no other plans. Meals also will be delivered to homes in the area.
The event is organized by several local families and staffed by volunteers.
For home delivery or transportation to the Memorial Building, call (330) 337-3728 by Nov. 26.
Any residents or organizations interested in helping by preparing a turkey, stuffing or pies may also call the number for more details.
Trooper of the year
CANFIELD — Jason R. Fantone has been selected trooper of the year at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield post. Fantone, 32, was selected by supervisors and fellow troopers based on outstanding service, leadership abilities, ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude and cooperation with supervisors, peers and the public. He is now in contention for the Warren District and state trooper of the year award. Fantone joined the patrol in May 2004. He lives in Austintown with his wife, Karey, and their daughter, Alexis.
Christmas parade
COLUMBIANA — The Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce is still accepting float or marching entries for the seventh annual Columbiana Christmas Parade on Saturday.
The parade will leave Joshua Dixon school at 10 a.m., proceed up Main Street and end at the intersection of Union Street and Main. This year’s theme is “A Musical Family Christmas.” Parade participants will return to the school via Vine Street. Plaques will be awarded to winning entrants. Locks of Love benefit
BUTLER, Pa. — Butler County Community College and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society present “Locks-Giving” to benefit Locks of Love from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Succop Theater on the BC3 main campus. Both hair and cash donations will be accepted to benefit children under 18 suffering from long-term hair loss from any medical diagnosis. Locks of Love’s mission is to provide wigs to financially disadvantaged children. Stylists will cut hair for a donation. There is a 10-inch minimum requirement, and hair should be clean and dry.
