‘twilight’ on top
The soundtrack for “Twilight,” the film based on Stephenie Meyer’s vampire book series, sank its teeth into the top of the national sales chart, debuting at No. 1 Wednesday after selling 165,000 copies during its first week of release.
The album, which includes songs by Linkin Park, Perry Farrell, Paramore, Muse and other rock acts, hit stores in advance of the Nov. 21 general release date for the movie. It kept AC/DC’s “Black Ice” from logging a third consecutive week at No. 1. “Black Ice” dropped to No. 2 with sales of 160,000 copies.

captain america chief
Captain America has a new boss.
Joe Johnston, above, whose credits include “Jurassic Park III” and “Jumanji,” has been signed to direct the comic-book adaptation “The First Avenger: Captain America,” Marvel Studios announced Monday.
The movie is scheduled for release May 6, 2011, the same weekend that Marvel scored a blockbuster this year with “Iron Man,” starring Robert Downey Jr. “Iron Man 2” comes out May 7, 2010.
Distributed by Paramount Pictures, “Captain America” is based on the Marvel Comics character Steve Rogers, who volunteers for a research program that transforms him into a patriotic super-soldier. The lead role has not yet been cast.
Marvel also is teaming Captain America with Downey’s Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor and other superheroes from the comic-book giant’s vaults for “The Avengers,” due in theaters July 15, 2011.
no more ‘heroes’
Does NBC’s “Heroes” make sense anymore? Does anyone care? Apparently, Ubisoft doesn’t think so. The company has pulled the plug on its “Heroes” video game, which was announced more than a year ago.
Since then, the TV series has gone from a pop-culture hit to a tangle of incoherent stories, so the French publisher decided to cut its losses.
Ubisoft got burned earlier this year when “Lost: Via Domus,” its tie-in to another cultish serialized TV drama, only sold about 100,000 copies.
