2-year-old dies from gunshot wound

SMITH TOWNSHIP — A self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest claimed the life of 2-year-old Jacob Foor, said Police Chief John Siranovic. He said the boy’s grandmother called 911 at 9:16 a.m. Thursday. The boy was taken from his home at 1005 Lake Park Boulevard, Lot 12, Tecumseh Village Trailer Park, to Alliance Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The child was then taken to the Summit County Coroner’s Office. Siranovic said it’s possible the boy turned the gun toward himself because he couldn’t get his fingers on the trigger to pull it with the gun facing away from him. Siranovic said the gun used, a 9mm semiautomatic, belongs to the child’s father, Douglas Foor, a part-time Minerva police officer. The gun was not Foor’s service weapon, just a gun kept at home, Siranovic said. The chief said the investigation continued today in an effort to find out where the firearm was kept in the home. He said the boy’s father and mother, Amanda Saunier, were too distraught on Thursday to be interviewed. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation was used to collect evidence.
