YOUNGSTOWN — The man found shot to death on the South Side has been identified as 32-year-old Billy O. McGeorge.
McGeorge, whose last known address was Parkwood Avenue, was found in the driveway of 419 W. Marion Ave. around 12:25 a.m. Wednesday.
A man who lives in the 400 block of West Marion told police he heard at least three gunshots and, judging by how loud they sounded, knew they were close by. When he stepped onto his front porch, a man walking up the street told him there was a body in the driveway of 419 West Marion.
The man who saw the body in the driveway kept on going.
First officers on the scene found McGeorge lying on his back, already dead. He was dressed in a black leather coat, red sweatshirt, orange shirt and orange pants. There was broken glass on his pants. A black baseball cap was near the body, as was a smashed bottle.
McGeorge had been shot in the left eye, right side and groin, police said. No vehicle was found nearby.
The case has been assigned to Detective Sgts. Pat Kelly and Ron Rodway.
Capt. Kenneth Centorame, chief of detectives, said Kelly and Rodway were out Wednesday to canvass the neighborhood again.
McGeorge shot a man in the face in 2000 and pleaded guilty to felonious assault, reduced from attempted murder, Centorame said. Records show McGeorge was sentenced in 2001 to three years in prison for a firearm specification and four years for the shooting. He was released from prison Nov. 29, 2007, and placed on three years’ supervised release.
Vindicator files show a warrant on a charge of attempted murder was issued for McGeorge on Dec. 13, 2000. He was accused of twice shooting Anderson Black, 23, in the parking lot of Southern Tavern on Glenwood Avenue on Dec. 2. The men had been ejected from the tavern after an argument earlier that night, Detective Daryl Martin said at the time.
McGeorge is the city’s 25th homicide victim of the year. At this time last year, the city had recorded 30 homicides.
