Campbell driver charged after car chase
YOUNGSTOWN — A Campbell man whom police said led an officer on a car chase after the officer saw him run a red light was charged and taken to Mahoning County jail.
David A. Koutsoubos, 38, of Neoka Drive, was charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and failure to obey an order or signal from a police officer.
Police said a Youngstown officer on patrol saw Koutsoubos run a red light at Connecticut and North Dunlap avenues around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday and tried to stop his car as Koutsoubos turned south on Meridian Road. The officer said he could see Koutsoubos looking back at him in his rearview mirror.
Koutsoubos pulled over at Oakwood Avenue but then pulled away as the officer got out of his cruiser, police said. He did the same thing again near Mahoning Avenue, police said.
He turned west on Mahoning and ran a red light at Four Mile Run Road before a second Youngstown cruiser and an Austintown cruiser joined the chase and succeeded in boxing his vehicle in, forcing him to stop near Westchester Drive, police said.
Koutsoubos refused to get out of his car and had to be removed by officers. He also refused to take any blood-alcohol tests, police said.
He was taken to jail and faced arraignment this morning.
