SALEM — The Hickory Rib, 377 S. Ellsworth Ave., and New Era Technology, Boardman-Canfield Road, are having a “Give Thanks” fundraiser as a benefit for the Second Harvest Food Bank now through Nov. 22.

The event includes a gift basket raffle and a canned food drive. Raffle tickets ($5 each or five for $20) are available at the Hickory Rib, where guests donating 10 cans of food will receive a free dessert. Monetary contributions can be made by personal or business checks at either of the sponsoring businesses.

Art gallery offers entertaining ideas

WARREN — Trumbull Art Gallery, 196 E. Market St., will present “Entertaining is An Art” from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Included will be a table setting exhibition, discussions on entertaining etiquette, a holiday food presentation by the Blue Iris Cafe and information on selecting wines.

Those attending can enter a table setting contest for $5, and receive a chance to win $200.

Boosters set craft show

LIBERTY — Liberty Band Boosters will host a craft show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the high school.

In addition to vendors offering a wide variety of items, there will be food, a 50-50 raffle and a silent auction. Table space is available.

Proceeds will benefit the Liberty Instrumental Music Program.

Walkers, runners invited to after-holiday event

SALEM — A Post T-N-T (Turkey-N-Trimmings) 5k run/walk will be sponsored by Salem Community Center, 1098 N Ellsworth Ave., on Nov. 29 and will cover a 3.1-mile course through Waterworth Memorial Park and residential streets.

The cost is $12 for preregistration by today and $15 race day. The first 100 entries will receive a souvenir.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m., and participants will leave the center at 9. Awards will be presented in various age groups at the center. For more information, call (330) 332-6295.

Youngstown Club plans champagne shopping

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Club, 201 E. Commerce St., invites the public to its second annual Champagne Shopping from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 20.

Patrons can enjoy shopping with Blooming Crazy Florist, Expresso Art, Golf Headquarters, Komara Jewelers, L.S. Baskets & Gifts, Tom James Clothing and Youngstown Club Cheese.

Make reservations for lunch, which is served from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m., or dinner, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Mended Hearts chapter plans annual nut sale

YOUNGSTOWN — Mended Hearts, Chapter 7, is conducting an annual nut sale as a fundraiser through mid-December.

Sales of jumbo cashews or fancy mixed nuts in one-pound bags will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays at St. Elizabeth Health Center on Belmont Avenue, and Wednesdays at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, where kosher nuts will be available.

All proceeds will be divided between scholarships for financially strapped medical students at Youngstown State University, Mercy College and the St. Elizabeth Campus, and for children with cardiac abnormalities at Bob Hartley’s Camp Mountain Heart.

Breakfast with veterans will benefit children

YOUNGSTOWN — A Christmas breakfast with veterans is planned for Nov. 29 by the Auxiliary of American Legion George Washington Carver Post 504, 2225 Glenwood Ave.

The sausage and pancake breakfasts will be available from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and there will be a Chinese auction and a raffle.

Admission to the event will be new toys, new children’s clothing, uniforms and outerwear. Toys will be donated to the Salvation Army and the Rescue Mission.

Thanksgiving Turkey Trot sponsored by Kiwanis Club

WARREN — Warren Kiwanis Club will host it 30th annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning at the Trumbull Campus of Kent State University on Mahoning Avenue.

The event will feature a two-mile fun run/walk that begins at 9 a.m. and a five-mile race that will start at 9:45. Both will begin and end at the campus, where awards will be presented in the Lecture Hall A of the Administration Building.

The preregistration fee is $15, and race-day registrations are $17. Those paying the entry fee by Nov. 21 will receive a long-sleeved shirt.

Registration forms will be mailed to previous participants. Entry forms or more information can be downloaded by contacting www.warrenkiwanis.org or by e-mail to race director Ted Rupe at Ted.Rupe@neomin.org. They are also available at area YMCA and YWCA locations and at Second Sole in Boardman.

Last year, more than 1,500 individuals participated in the event, resulting in $15,000 raised for Kiwanis charitable donations through registration fees and corporate sponsorships.

Donations appreciated for homeless children

YOUNGSTOWN — Beatitude House is asking the community to donate items that homeless children living at the home can give to their mothers at Christmas.

Appreciated will be practical items such as gloves or socks, or “luxury” items such as bath sets or perfume (no candles).

The children will be given the opportunity to pick a gift from the donated items, and volunteers will help with the wrapping.

Those interested in assisting with the project are asked to take unwrapped gifts to 238 Tod Ave., on the North Side of Youngstown, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The deadline for gift donations will be Dec. 15.

Community Christmas celebration in park

BOARDMAN — A series of activities has been planned for Dec. 7, when the 12th annual Boardman Community Christmas Celebration will take place in Boardman Township Park.

Groups of area residents are invited to participate in the event by using natural materials to decorate one of the park trees near the gazebo. Each interested group can reserve a tree by calling (330) 726-8107 before Nov. 28.

Santa will arrive at the gazebo at 3 p.m. and will be greeted by music performed by Boardman High School Band under the direction of Tom Ruggieri. Those in attendance will be invited to join in caroling to be led by Linda Smrek.
