YOUNGSTOWN — Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church, 626 Wick Ave., will have a commemorative candle lighting, a nationwide event sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday to remember and honor Americans who have been or will be affected by Alzheimer’s disease or related illnesses.

The church will have two religious services, at noon and 6 p.m., in conjunction with the observance. There will be a Romanian lunch from noon to 2 p.m., and there is a fee. Donations also will be accepted for the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Driver arrested in crash

WARREN — Roger Stiles, 47, of Stiles Street Northwest, was cited with failure to control his vehicle after traveling off of the right side of West Market Street, hitting a telephone pole and business at 7:20 a.m. Monday, police said. The accident caused damage to the front of A&N Restaurant Equipment Refrigeration Sales and Service, 420 W. Market Street. No injuries were reported.

5 boys stone windows

WARREN — Charges are pending against five boys who used stones to break out windows at a doctor’s office at 1032 E. Market St. and then hit police officers and their cars with the stones at about 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Officers responded to the business for a break-in alarm. The five boys were located a short time later hiding inside a house on Charles Avenue. They were taken to the Warren Police Department and later released to a family member.

Casal Aveda open house

AUSTINTOWN — The annual holiday open house hosted by Casal Aveda Institute, 6000 Mahoning Ave., will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. This will be the first chance to purchase Aveda holiday gift sets. Featured will be complimentary experience centers, hors d’oeuvres, drinks, entertainment and opportunities to win Aveda products and services.

Fund-raising event

BOARDMAN — Linda Deckant, proprietor of The Local Boutique, Possessions, is hosting a fund-raising event at the Boardman location, 945 Boardman-Canfield Road, from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

A 20 percent discount is being offered to all Youngstown City School District employees on their purchases during this time with 10 percent of all proceeds going to The Children’s Garden at Paul C.
