More than 1,000 attend funeral of slain Ohio minister
CINCINNATI (AP) — More than 1,000 people attended the funeral of an Ohio minister who was fatally shot a week ago outside a northern Kentucky church.
Those who crowded into Cincinnati’s Southern Baptist Church on Saturday included two busloads of people from Baptist churches in Cleveland and Youngstown who made the trip in a show of solidarity against violence.
The Rev. Donald Fairbanks was shot Nov. 1 as he arrived at a Covington, Ky., church to attend a funeral. A man who had been ordered last year to stay away from the minister has been charged.
Fairbanks led Cincinnati’s New St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for 22 years. A second man who was shot, Dowdell Cobb, had been hospitalized but was well enough to attend the funeral.
