Giants outscore Eagles

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Eli Manning threw for 191 yards and two touchdowns and Brandon Jacobs ran for 126 yards and two scores to lead the New York Giants to a 36-31 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday night.

The Giants (8-1) finished with 401 total yards but couldn’t rest until converting a fourth-down play late in the game.

New York led 36-24 with 9:35 remaining after Jacobs’ 3-yard TD run and a failed two-point conversion pass.

But Donovan McNabb led the Eagles on a 10-play, 71-yard drive, passing 2 yards to Kevin Curtis with 5:36 remaining that made it 36-31.

Philadelphia forced a three-and-out, but Brian Westbrook was stopped for no gain on fourth-and-1 at the Eagles 45-yard line with 1:47 remaining.

The Giants took over and ran out the clock.

McNabb finished 17-of-36 for 194 yards and three TDs. The Eagles were held to 106 yards on the ground; Westbrook rushed 13 times for 26 yards.

John Carney kicked two field goals for the Giants, who caught a huge break on a reversed call in the third quarter to take the lead.

Manning’s 17-yard completion to Kevin Boss was originally whistled as an illegal forward pass because he stepped over the line of scrimmage.

Coach Tom Coughlin threw the red challenge flag and the call was overturned because Manning’s back foot was not beyond the line of scrimmage before he released the ball.

Two plays later, Jacobs scored on a 3-yard run for 27-24 lead.

The Eagles had gone ahead 24-20 on Hank Baskett’s leaping 7-yard touchdown catch over Aaron Ross in the corner of the end zone. The TD catch from Donovan McNabb capped a pretty good week for Baskett, who became engaged to “The Girls Next Door” co-star Kendra Wilkinson.

Trying to slice a game off New York’s division lead, Philadelphia scored two first-half touchdowns off Giants turnovers.

McNabb threw a TD pass and lined up as a wideout on a trick play score that gave the Eagles their first touchdown.

David Akers kicked a 29-yard field goal as the first half expired to make it 20-17.

The Giants and Eagles played in front of a special guest. Vice President-elect Joe Biden watched the game in a luxury suite with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie.
