NHL roundup \ Saturday’s other games
Red Wings 3, Devils 1
DETROIT — Marian Hossa scored two goals to lift the Red Wings. Kirk Maltby also scored for the defending Stanley Cup champions (9-2-2) and Chris Osgood made 24 saves. Zach Parise had New Jersey’s lone goal, and Kevin Weekes stopped 28 shots for the Devils (7-4-2). Parise tied it 1-1 at 4:15 of the second period when he tipped in Johnny Oduya’s shot for his eighth goal, but Hossa’s second of the game and eighth this season restored Detroit’s lead. Hossa beat Weekes with a wrist shot from the left circle. Maltby added his first goal, 4:11 into the third period, by putting in a loose puck from the bottom of the left circle.
Lightning 2, Flyers 1
PHILADELPHIA — Vaclav Prospal and Jussi Jokinen scored second-period goals to lift the Lightning. Mike Smith made 34 saves for the Lightning, who ended a two-game losing streak. They played the third game of a five-game road trip, with games ahead at Washington and Florida. Danny Briere’s goal in his first game back since abdominal surgery couldn’t spark the Flyers. Philadelphia lost its third straight and has scored only goal in each of the last two games.
Capitals 3, Rangers 1
WASHINGTON — Brent Johnson had 28 saves, including a pivotal stop on a penalty shot in the third period, and the Capitals beat the Rangers to remain unbeaten at home. Starting a third straight game in place of inconsistent regular Jose Theodore, Johnson enjoyed another solid performance. He is 3-0-2 as a starter and turned aside 102 of 107 shots during his three-game run. The only shot that got past him was a power-play goal by Aaron Voros with 13:33 remaining. That cut Washington’s lead to 2-1 and ruined Johnson’s bid for his first shutout since April 1, 2006, at Ottawa.
Bruins 3, Sabres 1
BOSTON — Manny Fernandez made 32 saves, and Chuck Kobasew marked his return to the Bruins lineup with a goal and an assist in Boston’s victory. The Bruins have won six of seven and four in a row at home.
Maple Leafs 6, Canadiens 3
TORONTO — Niklas Hagman scored twice and linemate Mikhail Grabovski had a goal and an assist to lead the Maple Leafs. Grabovski has six goals and two assists in the last four games, teaming up with Hagman and Nikolai Kulemin to form a nice line for the Maple Leafs.
