Woman says she chased robbers

staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — A Pinehurst Avenue woman reported that two men put her in the trunk of her car, robbed her South Side home and then ran west into Boardman as she chased them in her car Thursday night.

During the chase, at least one of the men fired a gun toward the woman, she reported. A vehicle being driven by another woman was hit by gunfire from the men, smashing out that woman’s side window and windshield, Boardman police said.

The woman told Youngstown police that two men with handguns approached her in her garage at about 9 p.m. They ordered her into the trunk of her car, she said. From the sounds she heard, she believes one of the men went into her house. When he came back out, the men tried to steal her car but couldn’t start it, she said.

She kicked open the trunk, at which time one of the men grabbed her shirt and cut the center of her chest, a Youngstown police report says. It doesn’t say what was used to cut her.

The men ran away, and the woman followed in her car, she said.

She located the two in Boardman, where one of them fired a gun at her on Court Way, she said. There was no damage reported from the shot. But a vehicle being driven by another woman nearby on the next street west, Chester Drive, was hit by a shot from one of the two men at about that same time, shattering a side window and the windshield, she told Boardman police.

Youngstown police tried to locate the men using a police dog but were unsuccessful. The woman said her purse had been taken from her home.
