Oak Baptist will hold installation, work sessions

YOUNGSTOWN —Oak Baptist Church, 320 Elk St., will hold a pre-installation musical at 7 p.m. today with the Precision Gospel Band, minister Bernell Williams, Mike Jennings, Fatima Williams and the Friendship Baptist Church mime group.

Worship at 11 a.m. Sunday will feature minister Marcia Walker of Union Baptist Church. At 4 p.m., Pastor Gina Thornton of St. Paul African Methodiest Episcopal Church in Cleveland will conduct the installation ceremony for Pastor Sylvia L. Jennings.

The Positive People Group, an organization dedicated to the unification of positive-minded individuals who share a vision of enhancing the outlook and quality of life in the Mahoning Valley, will hold two work sessions at Oak Baptist Church. Vandals robbed the church, damaged the sanctuary and tore up the walls in search of scrap metal.

From 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, volunteers will be preparing the church for painting by wiping down walls, laying tarp and taping off windows and trim. Then from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 15, volunteers will paint and clean up the church.

Pastor Jennings, whose mission is to revitalize the church both as a building and as a people, spoke at a recent meeting of PPG. The group meets the third Tuesday of each month at Rosetta Stone Caf . PPG co-founders are Ron Nanosky and Roy Thomas.

Along with volunteers, donations for the project also are being sought. Paint, brushes, tarps, tape, food for the workers and carpeting are needed. Contact Nanosky at (330) 565-3339 or Thomas at (330) 518-4139.
