Columbiana board recalls 125 voters for paperwork
staff report
LISBON — Columbiana County elections workers are moving closer to a final count from Tuesday’s elections.
Kim Meek, the elections director, said that about 125 voters must return to the board of elections to complete their votes.
The 125 people cast absentee ballots before the election. But elections officials said that the voters failed to complete the needed information on the paperwork that goes with the absentee ballot.
Meek and Lois Gall, the deputy director, said people left off their addresses or other information, or failed to seal the envelope that holds their ballot.
The county board notified the voters that they have until 4:30 p.m. Friday to come in and fix the problems.
Meek said some of the voters wanted to send their grown children or other people to fix the errors.
Meek said the voter must come to the elections board in person.
The county has counted ballots from about 7,850 absentee ballots. An additional 1,150 provisional ballots have been corrected and counted. Provisional ballots are those cast by people who moved into the county after registration or who moved within the county.
Meek said workers dropped the old addresses and added the new ones.
Elections workers will have the official count on Nov. 17. The board of elections will meet at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 18 to approve the final numbers.
