What police, firefighters get

Boardman voters this week passed a five-year, 2.2-mill levy for the police and fire departments. The breakdown:

The levy will generate $2,078,924 annually.

Police: About $900,000 annually, allowing up to 10 officers to be hired.

Fire: About $600,000, permitting the recall of six of nine laid-off firefighters.

Levy dollars not being used for police and fire personnel will go toward equipment and training and for potential increases to health care, workers’ compensation and retirement percentages.
