Slow start for Mooney

CANTON — The Mooney High football team avoided a big turnover on the first play of Friday’s game against Steubenville.

A high snap by center Dom Jackett required quarterback Alex Zordich to jump and haul the ball in and was sacked for a loss of four yards. The Cardinals went three-and-out on their opening drive and punted the ball away.

Steubenville capitalized behind hard running by Branko Busick and quarterback Dwight Macon.

Macon’s first carry resulted in a 63-yard touchdown run on the Big Red’s opening drive. Steubenville leads the Cardinals 7-0 in the first quarter.
