Cortland Banks to open branch in North Lima

NORTH LIMA – Cortland Banks said it will open its newest branch at 9001 Market St. on Nov. 17. The office is at Market and Western Reserve Road. It has three drive-through lanes that will open at 8 a.m. Monday through Saturday, a 24-hour drive-up ATM and a night depository drop box.

Giant Eagle tests discount linking groceries and gas

COLUMBUS — A supermarket chain is testing how central Ohio shoppers take to a program that flips those now familiar gasoline discounts for grocery buyers.

Giant Eagle is offering grocery savings to people who fill up at its GetGo gas stations. Customers earn a 1 percent grocery discount for every 10 gallons of gas they buy, up to a maximum 20 percent.

Giant Eagle Inc. chief executive David Shapira says if the experiment at the company’s Columbus area stores is successful, the program will expand quickly throughout Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland.

Mortgage rates drop for home buyers

WASHINGTON — Mortgage rates dropped this week, providing a dose of welcome news to prospective home buyers.

Freddie Mac, the mortgage giant, reported Thursday that rates on 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages averaged 6.20 percent for the week ending Nov. 6. That was down sharply from 6.46 percent last week.

Judge won’t limit damages for Appaloosa

NEW YORK — A bankruptcy judge on Thursday again refused to limit potential damages that the Appaloosa hedge fund may be forced to pay in a fraud lawsuit brought by auto supplier Delphi Corp.

Appaloosa Management LP — run by Goldman Sachs alum David Tepper — led a group of investors to inject as much as $2.55 billion into Delphi in exchange for stock. But the investors withdrew from the deal in April, and Delphi sued the next month.
