McDONALD COUNCIL Agenda
Village officials handled these matters at their meeting Wednesday:
Received an update from police Chief Lou Ronghi about the parking and traffic situations near the elementary school. A nearby parking lot that added 70 to 75 spaces was installed last month, which enhances the safety of pupils and has greatly reduced the longtime problem of gridlock on and near Sixth Street, Ronghi noted, adding that a crossing guard also is in the area.
Approved the re-appointment of Councilman Michael O’Brien to the village’s firefighters dependency board. By state law, fire departments are required to have such a board if a firefighter is killed or injured in the line of duty so that dependents can continue to receive monthly benefits they’re entitled to, Chief Ed Winterbauer explained. The board meets each December to approve existing claims, which are forwarded to the state for review, Winterbauer noted. The McDonald Volunteer Fire Department has had a dependency board for about 20 years, he said.
