Scouting report: No. 1 Mount Union and No. 12 Otterbein will meet for the OAC championship. Mount Union rolled past John Carroll last Saturday, 41-7, to extend its regular-season winning streak to 31 games. Otterbein shut out Marietta, 55-0, to tie the school record for most wins in one season. Senior RB back Nate Kmic ran for four TDs and 158 yards to lead Mount Union, while the Purple Raiders’ defense allowed John Carroll only 30 yards in the first half and just 157 for the game — the fifth straight game that the Raiders have kept an opponent under 200 yards. The MUC defense had a season-high seven sacks, two by DE James Herbert; while another DE, Joe Millings, led the team with game-high nine tackles. In Otterbein’s win, the Cardinals scored 27 points in the third quarter to break open the game. Otterbein had five TDs on the ground as Eric Yates and Colton Coy rushed for 125 and 107 yards, respectively. Eric Burnsides had 10 tackles to lead a defense that posted five sacks and three interceptions.

Scouting report: Grove City upended Waynesburg last Saturday, 23-19, while Westminster was idle. Senior TB Brian Mercer ran for three TDs (from the 4, 2 and 1) while the Grove City defense limited host Waynesburg to just 68 yards of offense and five first downs in the second half. Senior strongside LB Ian Minster led the Wolverines with 12 tackles while freshman weakside LB Jason Ferguson (Mineral Ridge) added nine stops, including two for loss. Junior QB Andrew DiDonato was 8-for-21 passing for 120 yards. Sophomore WB A.J. Tapper caught three passes for 26 yards while senior WR Stephen Mercer (Beaver Local) had two catches for 49 yards.

Scouting report: Waynesburg was upended by Grove City, 23-19, while Thiel beat St. Vincent, 36-22. John Madeline (Hubbard High), a freshman kicker for Thiel, was named Special Teams player of the Week for his performance against St. Vincent. Madeline accounted for 10 of the Tomcats’ points by kicking two field goals (26 and 30 yards) and two extra points and also running for a two-point conversion. QB Willie Bova turned in a strong performance for Thiel by completing 23 of 40 passes for 258 yards and three scores, while running 12 times for 105 yards, to key the win at Chuck Noll Field. Brendan Taylor caught seven passes for 87 yards.

Scouting report: Bethany lost to Geneva last Saturday, 38-23, while W&J lost to Thomas More, 35-29. Bethany QB Chad Smith threw for 306 yards, his third 300-yards-plus game of the year to break the Bethany single-season record; and two touchdowns. Matt Cruse was the big-play target, hauling in five passes for 112 yards and a score, his 21st career TD reception. It also was his fifth 100-yard receiving effort of the season, and he climbed into the No. 3 spot in career receptions (129) and No. 2 in career receiving yards (1,961). RB Eric Walker rushed for 013 yards in 27 carries and one TD, and also caught six passes for 50 yards. In W&J’s loss, senior QB Bobby Swallow (West Branch) set school records for single-game completions and attempts. He was 40-for-58 passing for 361 yards a four TDs (4, 3, 10 and 25 yards), and moved into 20th place in NCAA Division III history with his 92nd career scoring pass.

Scouting report: Geneva is coming off a 38-23 win over Bethany, while Thomas More spilled W&J, 35-29. Geneva scored 25 points in the second quarter, including 17 in the final 2:31 of that period, to build an 11-point halftime, and went on to the win at Bison Stadium. The Golden Tornadoes were led by RBs in Matt Barge (18 carries, 143 yards, two TDs) and Gerard Muschette (16 carries, 139 yards). Barge’s TD runs covered 29 and 51 yards. QB David Girardi hit Brian Dvorsak with a paior of TD passes covering 6 and 16 yards. Geneva’s defense was led by Zach Feltrop and Aaron Tommelleo who combined for 27 tackles. Thomas More’s Brad Steinmetz, a junior LB, led his team’s defense against W&J and was named PAC Defensive Player of the Week. Steinmetz had 14 tackles (nine solo stops and five assists), including four for losses of 22 yards and three QB sacks for minus 20 yards.

Scouting report: Wittenberg blanked Denison last Saturday, 23-0, while Allegheny lost to Wooster, 35-21. In Allegheny’s loss, Terry Hartford finished with six catches for 58 yards while Bobby Burkes (Union High) hauled in three passes for 91 yards and his first career touchdown. Hartford also broke a school record with an 85-yard punt return for a score, breaking a mark that was first set in 1978 and tied in 1996. QB T.J. Salopek ended 19-for-31 passing for 221 yards and two touchdowns. The Gators’ defense was led by Bell and Aaron Walter with 11 and 10 total stops, respectively, while C.J. Bell added two interceptions. Craig Lawrence led the team in tackles for losses with 2.5, including a sack, and h also had a fumble recovery. Punter Andrew DeJong averaged 40.1 yards for seven punts. The Rock defense forced Lock Haven into four lost fumbles, picked off three passes and held the visitors to only 34 rushing yards. Redshirt freshman running back SayQuan Scott-Mitchell rushed for 98 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns (2 and 12 yards) in a backup role, to lead Slippery Rock’s 250-yard rushing effort. Scouting report: Walsh’s 24-22 loss to Ohio Dominican last Saturday was the Cavaliers’ third defeat in a row and their school-record seventh so far this season. Marian defeated Taylor last Saturday, 32-23, by scoring 17 unanswered points in the second half. In the Walsh game, Ohio Dominican took a 24-16 lead at 12:43 of the fourth quarter on Cris Reisert’s 10-yard scoring pass to Steven Williams. But the Cavaliers cut the deficit to 24-22 on Jeff Tallman’s 1-yard plunge at 7:40 — only to fall short of tying the game on QB Jim Shiplett’s conversion-run attempt. Shiplett was injured on the play and left the field on a stretcher. He suffered a concussion and is lost for the season. Reisert led Ohio Dominican (5-3, 3-2 MSFA-Mideast) with (4-28-for-44 passing for 275 yards. Tallman ran for a game-high 142 yards. Marc Pullen started at quarterback and finished 10-for-24 passing for 107 yards. Pullen was injured on Walsh’s fourth quarter scoring drive, but returned for their final drive. In Marian’s win, Dustin Craig picked-off a Taylor pass and returned it 25 yards for a score to give Marian the lead for good.

Scouting report: Malone rallied to defeat Saint Xavier, 27-23, last Saturday while St. Francis conquered Urbana, 42-16. Malone and St. Francis are tied for first place in the MSFA Mideast. Malone QB Bobby Orsagh and WR Derek Deardorff hooked up for three touchdown passes, including their final connection covering 39 yards with 7:42 left, to cap a 20-point final quarter to give the Pioneers the comeback win. Orsagh, whose other two TD passes to Deardorff covered 27 and 21 yards, finished with four TD passes and completed 23 of 37 passes for 356 yards and one interception.
