New Music Society presents fall pops concert

YOUNGSTOWN — The Dana New Music Society will hold its fall pops concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Bliss Recital Hall. Guest artists will be pianists Michelle Cann and Dana faculty member Zahari Todorov Metchkov.

Metchkov graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2004 as valedictorian with a double degree in piano and organ, and is currently a doctoral candidate in piano performance. Metchkov joined the Dana piano faculty this fall.

Michelle Cann is an undergraduate senior at the Cleveland Institute. She has placed in numerous competitions and has performed with the Florida Orchestra, Tampa Bay Symphony, Central Florida Symphony and the Cleveland Institute of Music Symphony Orchestra as winner of the Institute’s Concerto Competition.

The Composers Ensemble, directed by Robert Rollin, will premiere six new works on the concert. Four solo works will also be featured on the program.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Parking is available for $5 in the Wick Avenue parking deck. Bliss Recital Hall is in Bliss Hall, on Wick Avenue, across from the Butler Institute of American Art.

Baroque ensemble plans concert at church

GREENVILLE, Pa. — Friends of Music at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will present Music for a While, a Baroque music ensemble, at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 23.

Music for a While is a small chamber group founded some 20 years ago for the performance of 17th- and 18th-century music.

Musicians from the Buffalo and Erie philharmonic orchestras and local college faculty members have joined the group in presenting rarely heard works by English, German and Italian Baroque composers.

Holy Trinity is located at the corner of Penn Avenue and Clinton Street in Greenville, Pa. A free-will offering will be accepted.

Main Street Theater seeks artwork

COLUMBIANA — The Main Street Theater and Encore Cafe, 5 N. Main St., is looking for local artists interested in displaying their work in the cafe and adjacent theater lobby.
