Society for Quality to meet Monday
CHAMPION — The Youngstown-Warren section of the American Society for Quality will meet Monday in the work force development building of the Kent State Trumbull Campus.
At 5 p.m., Jim Odom will lead the technical session with a discussion on data analysis. At 6:45 p.m., Carla Konzel of St. Vincent Hospital Systems in Erie, Pa., will speak about using the six-sigma quality program in health care.

FirstEnergy earnings up 14% in 3rd quarter
AKRON — Electric utility FirstEnergy Corp. says its third-quarter earnings rose 14 percent, helped by record power generation in the July-September period.
Akron-based FirstEnergy says it earned $471 million, or $1.54 per share, on revenue of $3.9 billion during the quarter. That was up from third-quarter 2007 profits of $413 million, or $1.34 per share, on revenue of $3.6 billion.
Earnings beat the $1.42 estimate of Wall Street analysts. Their forecasts typically exclude one-time charges.
