BOARDMAN — The 12th annual Penguin Club Jamboree will be held on Nov. 13 at The Georgetown.

The event features auction items, a reverse raffle drawing and the side-board drawings. A special door prize for $500 will also be available.

The buffet dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. with the silent auction and reverse raffle at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit YSU athletic scholarships.

Tickets are $100, which includes a ticket to the drawing and dinner. Extra dinner tickets are available for $50. The grand prize is $3,000 which goes to the person or group with the last number drawn.

There are 20 additional cash prizes worth a total of $4,200. The side board follows the big board draws and the payout will be 50 percent of receipts. Blocks are $10 each or three for $25.

The $500 door prize will be distributed after the grand prize. Also, with the new format, two numbers will be eliminated during each draw to save time.

Baseball instructional camps

STRUTHERS —YSU’s baseball coaches will hold instructional camps on eight dates this winter at Valley Sports.

Camp sessions are for players ages 6-17, beginning with a holiday camp on Dec. 29. The camp series also features an advanced showcase camp for pitchers and catchers and a session that occurs over four Saturdays in January.

Campers can also attend morning sessions on Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 19 and President’s Day on Feb. 16. Other dates are Dec. 30, Jan. 10, Jan. 17, Jan. 24 and Jan. 31.

Attendees will receive instruction from YSU’s staff, led by the 2008 Horizon League co-coach of the year, Rich Pasquale, and players. Video analysis will also be provided at select sessions.

6 named as scholar athletes

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Six YSU softball players were named All-America Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association after earning 3.5 grade point averages.

They were Danielle Chase, Autumn Grove, Tasha Hess, Becky Hibner, Erin Schindler and Kelli Sheibley.
