2 houses hit by bullets in drive-by shooting
YOUNGSTOWN — Shots fired from a car hit two houses in the 750 block of Crandall Avenue on the North Side on Monday evening. No injuries were reported.
A witness told police that a gold Ford Escort traveling north on Griffith Street turned onto Crandall and stopped around 7:15 p.m. The driver and passenger opened fire, hitting the front door at 751 Crandall and the front wall and side window at 753 Crandall.
The residents at 753 Crandall later found two bullet fragments in an upstairs bedroom, reports show. Police collected four casings on the street between the two houses. A gold Ford Escort that had been stolen in Campbell was later found abandoned on Superior Street.
Santisi’s IGA workers robbed by 3 men
GIRARD — Police are trying to determine who is responsible for a robbery and other acts against employees at the Santisi’s IGA on North State Street.
Police said a delivery person was delivering merchandise to the store early Sunday when she was chased to her delivery van by three men wearing white hoodies. The group then demanded money from employees arriving at work before fleeing the area.
Reports say that later in the day Sunday, an employee at the store was taking out trash when a group of people on the roof of the store threw a buggy off the roof toward the employee.
Veteran Outreach Day
HERMITAGE, Pa. — The Pennsylvania CareerLink Mercer County Veterans Unit, jointly with the Mercer County Veterans Affairs and Disabled American Veterans, will have its Veteran Outreach Day for the Mercer County veterans from noon to 6 p.m. today at Hickory VFW Post 6166, 5550 E. State St.
Veteran service officers will assist veterans with applying for benefits and military-related services; and representatives of the VA Medical Center in Butler, Pa., will offer wellness information.
Veterans who bring their VA identification or a copy of their DD214 discharge form can get free flu shots. Flu shots for veterans’ spouses are $30, payable by cash or check. Veteran spouses who have Medicare Part B, Security Blue, Freedom Blue, UPMC For Life (Medicare Specialty), UPMC For You, Gateway Medicare Assured, or Gateway and Over 21 as their primary insurance will not incur an out-of-pocket cost.
