Bake sale today is annual event
HERMITAGE, PA. — An annual Election Day bake sale will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 3325 Morfield Road. Baked by members of the Dorcas Society, the sale items will include apple and pumpkin squares, doughnuts, cakes, pies and cookies. Also sold will be pigs in the blanket, and noodles and cabbage. Prom committee to host dinner
YOUNGSTOWN — Summit Academy Secondary Prom Committee will host an Election Day “Pasta For Prom” dinner from noon to 6 p.m. today at the school gym, 1400 Oak Hill. Meals include pasta, meatballs, salad, Italian bread, beverage, and a selection of homemade desserts. Meals are $5 for adults, $4 for students, and $3 for those under 10. Church thrift sale STRUTHERS — An annual thrift sale has been scheduled by Christ Lutheran Church, 250 Sexton St., for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. There will also be a basket raffle and sale of baked goods and homemade soup. A light lunch will be available.
Free wedding gowns for military brides-to-be
WARREN — On Nov. 10 Evaline’s Bridal, 211 E. Market St., will be giving 30 wedding gowns to military personnel who served in Iraq or Afghanistan or whose fianc is on active duty in those areas. The hand-selected designer gowns will be given on a first come, first serve basis to show appreciation for their service to this country.
To qualify for a gown, future military brides will be required to show ID, copy of deployment papers, orders, or other proof. They do not have to reside in the Warren area.
Evaline’s is participating in the philanthropic Brides Across America promotion to celebrate Veteran’s Day and honor members of the military.

Ballroom dance classes
SALEM — A five-week series of dance lessons, “Beginners Ballroom Dancing With Cues,” will begin Tuesday at Salem Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. Payment for the five sessions will be accepted when those interested in ballroom dancing (and their partners) register by mail or in person. The cost is $25 a person or $50 a couple. Preserving the community’s history is important, so any news clippings and photos that have dates if possible would be helpful. $13,250 raised at outing
BOARDMAN — Ankle & Foot Care Centers announces that the American Diabetes Association Golf Benefit it sponsored over the summer raised $13,250 to support diabetes research.
The event, which was at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Hubbard, attracted 128 area golfers and 64 corporate and hole sponsors. The money raised came from entry fees, sponsorships and cash donations from the participants.
