Thursday luncheon honors veterans
BOARDMAN — Veterans, active duty and Reserve military personnel, and Regional Chamber members are invited to attend a luncheon Thursday to honor the service and sacrifice of Mahoning Valley’s veterans. Those currently serving in the military should attend in uniform.
The luncheon, sponsored by Compco Industries, will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mr. Anthony’s, 7440 South Ave. Reservations are required and can be made by calling Jennifer Mascardine at (330) 744-2131.
The featured speaker is Air Force Reserve Col. Karl McGregor, commander of the 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.
The Regional Chamber will also recognize two individuals and one group for their dedication to, and support of, the Armed Forces. They are:
John P. Brown III, a decorated Navy veteran who is the immediate past national commander of AMVETS.
Lew Speece, curator of the War Veterans Museum in Canfield, which has collections and displays of more than 36,000 military artifacts from all periods of U.S. history. The Marine Corps veteran is a 29-year commander of American Legion Post 177.
The World War II Memorial Steering Committee, which helped raise $400,000 for construction of the city of Warren’s first World War II memorial, a bronze statue of a soldier, which will be dedicated in Monument Park on Veterans Day.
