WHO’S WHO: The steps of Stambaugh Auditorium were crowded with politicians 40 years ago today, when Vice President Hubert Humphrey spoke, three days before the presidential election in which he lost to Richard M. Nixon. To Humphrey’s right was Harry Meshel, then an administrative assistant to Mayor A.B. Flask. To Humphrey’s left was U.S. Rep. Michael J. Kirwan. Others visible, in whole or part, include: behind Meshel, Charles J. Carney, who would eventually succeed Kirwan; Municipal Judge John J. Leskovyansky, beneath Humphrey’s left elbow, and Police Chief John Terlesky, Coroner Dr. David A. Belinky, Clerk of Courts Anthony Vivo and County Commissioner John Palermo.
