Northern Iowa now 5-1 in MVFC

MACOMB, Ill. — Quarterback Zach Davis completed 13-of-21 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown to lead University of Northern Iowa past Western Illinois 30-6 on Saturday.

Corey Lewis, who had 87 yards on the ground, also added a touchdown for the Panthers (7-2, 5-1 Missouri Valley Football Conference). Derrick Law added 70 yards and a score as well.

Northern Iowa scored in every quarter and were up 20-3 at the half. It took the Leathernecks (5-3, 3-2) until the second quarter to get on the board with a 30-yard field goal by Taylor Rowan.

South Dakota State 43, Missouri State 13

BROOKINGS, S.D. — Ryan Berry threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns and Kyle Minett ran for 205 yards and a score.

Berry was 20-for-26 for the Jackrabbits (5-4, 4-1), who outgained the Bears 580-200 in total yards.

Berry’s 14-yard TD pass to Glen Fox and Minett’s 56-yard scoring run helped give SDSU a 19-6 lead at the half. Berry tossed TD passes of 15 and 9 yards to JaRon Harris in the third quarter. Harris finished with 169 yards on 10 catches.

Peter Reifenrath kicked three field goals for SDSU.

The Bears (3-5, 2-3) were held to 35 yards rushing.

Missouri State’s Cody Kirby completed 17 of 25 passes for 109 yards. He threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Chris Geisz with 45 seconds left in the first half.

But the Bears didn’t score again until Chris Miller, who was 4-for-7 for 57 yards, tossed an 11-yard TD pass to Chase Mejia with 2:32 to play.
