Foundation plans tour of four historic homes

LISBON — Lisbon Landmark Foundation will host a Christmas Historic Home Tour from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 22 and from noon to 5 p.m. Nov. 23.

In addition to four decorated homes, the First United Methodist Church and a local business, Country Wicks, will be included on the tour.

Open to visitors will be the following:

• The Victorian-style home of William and Carla Blocksom at 379 E. Lincoln Way. Built in 1888, it features ornate fret work above three original pocket doors and a Christmas tree in each room.

• The home of Kim and Stevie Halverstad at 132 S. Vine St. The old German federal-style was built in 1805 and features a Queen Anne wrap-around that was added in 1895, leaded glass entrance doors, parquet entrance floors and a beautiful staircase. The home is decorated with seasonal elements.

• “Poinsettia Way” is the theme of the home of Holly Powell and Trevor Stewart at 422 W. Lincoln Way. Decorated with pink, burgundy and white poinsettias, the home displays many architectural features with a Victorian flair.

• “An Elegant Victorian Christmas” is the theme of decorations at the home of Tom and Cheri Scott, 308 W. Lincoln Way. Of special interest are the replica tin ceiling in the kitchen, an upstairs ladies’ room and a fireplace surrounded with tiles original to the home, which was built circa 1900

• Dentil molding, pocket doors and a kissing porch are all attractions at the Victorian Craftsman home of Timothy and Laura Talbott, 307 W. Lincoln Way. Decorated in an “Old World Splendor” theme, the home features displays of Santas from around the world and paintings by Salvador Dali and Clyde Singer

• A Magi Gift Shop and displays of creches belonging to members will be featured at the First Methodist Church, 114 E. Washington St., where a soup luncheon will be available.

•At Country Wicks, 38005 Saltwell Road, visitors will see a display of hand-poured soy-based candles, seasonal decor, quilts, primitive and country furniture and such items as gourmet teas. Items made by local craftsmen will be offered for sale.

Tickets for the tour are $12 and available at Bye and Bye Hardware, Bill’s True Value Hardware and Lisbon Chamber of Commerce prior to the tour. They will also be available on tour days at the church. For additional information, call Marilyn McCullough at the Lisbon Chamber office, (330) 424-1803.
