Champion team wins Junior Envirothon

BAZETTA — The Trumbull Soil & Water Conservation District recently conducted its annual Junior Envirothon at Mosquito Lake State Park. Middle schools and home schools from throughout Trumbull County sent 12 teams to compete in the local science event.

The winning team for 2008 was the Champion Middle School “A” team with members Rachel Bickel, Jonathan Boyd, Megan Harkins, Lexi Nasonti and Eric Sindledecker.

The second-place team was the Trumbull Education Association of Christian Homeschoolers “B” Team, which is made up of Megan Dickenson, Rachel McFall and Moriah McKinnon.

The third-place team was Howland Middle School “B” team, which includes Jacob Froats, Nick Genaro, Stephen Kuhn, Manoli Magiassos and Mitesh Mehta.

Schools sent two teams each from Badger, Champion, Howland, Lakeview, Mathews and the TEACH.

The Junior Envirothon is open to any Trumbull County school or home-schooled group, grades six through eight.

The competition involved five testing stations on various natural resource topics such as forestry, wildlife, aquatics, soils and recreational impacts on the environment.
