Mount Union 41, John Carroll 7
ALLIANCE — Nate Kmic ran for four touchdowns from the 7, 1, 5 and 32 and rushed for 148 yards, as Mount Union stretched its regular-season winning streak to 31 games in an Ohio Athletic Conference game. Kmic’s four rushing TDs gave him 103 for his career and 108 overall — one TD short of the NCAA all-divisions record of 109 held by Germaine Race (Pittsburg State, Kan.) and Danny Woodhead (Chardon State, Colo.). The Mount Union (9-0, 7-0 OAC) defense came up with seven sacks to equal its season high.
Ohio Wesleyan 31, Hiram 7
DELAWARE — Quarterback Keegan Varner threw a pair of TD passes to Danny Flanegan covering 38 and 30 yards, as the pair led Ohio Wesleyan’s win in a North Coast Athletic Conference game. Varner finished with 7-for-14 passing for 108 yards, while Kyle Adams rushed for 122 rushing yards on 21 carries, including a 20-yard TD to also lead Ohio Wesleyan (2-6, 2-3 NCAC).
Wooster 35, Allegheny 21
WOOSTER — Wooster took a 21-7 lead, allowed Allegheny to rally and tie the score at 21-21, but then surged again for the victory in an NCAC game. Wooster (6-2, 4-1 NCAC) broke the tie in the fourth quarter on Dustin Sheppard’s 5-yard run, then added an insurance TD on Austin Holter’s 2-yard run. Holter rushed for three TDs and 103 yards in 17 attempts, while passing for 258 yards on 20-for-35 and one TD.
Malone 27, Saint Xavier 23
CANTON — Quarterback Bobby Orsagh and wide receiver Derek Deardorff hooked up for three touchdown passes, including their final connection covering 39 yards with 7:42 left, to cap a 20-point final quarter to give Malone College a comeback win in a Mid-States Football Association Mideast League game. Orsagh, whose other two TD passes to Deardorff covered 27 and 21 yards, finished with four TD passes and completed 23 of 37 passes for 356 yards and one interception to lead Malone (6-1, 4-0 MSFA Mideast).
Slippery Rock 45, Lock Haven 7
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock scored 31 points off seven Lock Haven turnovers en route to victory in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division game at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium. The Rock (5-5, 3-4 PSAC-West) defense forced Lock Haven into four lost fumbles, picked off three passes and held the visitors to only 34 rushing yards. Redshirt freshman running back SayQuan Scott-Mitchell rushed for 98 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns (2 and 12 yards) in a backup role, to lead The Rock’s 250-yard rushing effort.
Ohio Dominican 24, Walsh 22
CANTON — Ohio Dominican took a 24-16 lead at 12:43 of the fourth quarter on Cris Reisert’s 10-yard scoring pass to Steven Williams, but Walsh cut the deficit to 24-22 on Jeff Tallman’s 1-yard plunge at 7:40 — only to fall short of tying the game on QB Jim Shiplett’s conversion-run attempt. Shiplett was injured on the play and left the field on a stretcher. Reisert led Ohio Dominican (5-3, 3-2 MSFA-Mideast) with 28-for-44 passing for 275 yards.
Geneva 38, Bethany 23
BETHANY, W.Va. — Geneva scored 25 points in the second quarter, including 17 in the final 2:31 of that period, to build an 11-point halftime, and went on to the win at Bison Stadium. Geneva (3-5) was led by a pair of running backs in Matt Barge (18 carries, 143 yards, two TDs) and Gerard Muschette (16 carries, 139 yards).
Thiel 36, St. Vincent 22
LATROBE, Pa. — QB Willie Bova turned in a strong performance for Thiel by completing 23 of 40 passes for 258 yards and three scores, while running 12 times for 105 yards, to key the win at Chuck Noll Field. Brendan Taylor caught seven passes for 87 yards to also lead Thiel (2-6). In addition, John Madeline (Hubbard High) kicked a 26-yard field goal with 5:07 left in the half, cutting the SVC lead to 12-10. Madeline also ran for a conversion on a fake extra-point attempt to give Thiel a 25-15 lead at 8:10 of the third quarter. Then Madeline thumped a 30-yard field goal to put his squad up 28-15 at 4:27 of the third quarter. QB Kevin Corona had a career day for St. Vincent (1-8) by completing 27 of 42 passes for 284 yards, but the team committed four costly turnovers.
Grove City 23, Waynesburg 19
WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Senior tailback Brian Mercer ran for three touchdowns while the Grove City defense limited host Waynesburg to just 68 yards of offense and five first downs in the second half, en route to the PAC win at John F. Wiley Stadium. Junior QB Andrew DiDonato of Grove City (5-3, 2-2 PAC) was 8-for-21 passing for 120 yards. Sophomore wingback A.J. Tapper caught three passes for 26 yards while senior WR Stephen Mercer (Beaver Local High) had two catches for 49 yards. Senior strongside linebacker Ian Minster led the Wolverines with 12 tackles while freshman weakside linebacker Jason Ferguson (Mineral Ridge High) added nine stops, including two for losses. Waynesburg fell to 4-4, 1-3 PAC.
