Appreciation event to honor Pavlik trainer

YOUNGSTOWN — Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik will join former Browns players Bernie Kosar, Tim Manoa, Felix Wright and Reggie Langhorn for the “Night With Champions” on Nov. 15 at the Maronite Center.

The event is an appreciation dinner for one of Pavlik’s longtime trainers, Rocky Taumoepeau, owner of Rocky’s Fitness in Boardman.

A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Rich Center, a facility that treats autism.

The night includes dinner, a Chinese auction, Wii boxing with Pavlik, a raffle and a Hawaiian hula show.

“Rocky ... has, over the past 10 years, dedicated himself to developing me into the champion I am today,” Pavlik said. “The proceeds from this dinner will allow Rocky to continue his dedication to sports training our youth into successful champions of the future.”

Tickets cost $50, with tables of eight for $600 and VIP tables for $1,000.

Past Youngstown boxing champions are also scheduled to attend, along with former Ohio State linebacker Tom Cousineau, who played in the NFL for the Browns and 49ers.
