Volunteers help clean up debris in Youngstown neighborhoods

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Litter Control and Recycling launched its second annual citywide cleanup from the Chevrolet Centre, where volunteers grabbed trash bags, gloves and free T-shirts before dispersing throughout the city.

A team of about 60 volunteers was deployed to each of the city’s seven wards to collect debris and recyclables today. The street department collected discarded tires.

About 200 volunteers were expected to participate. Among them were churches and youth groups, including Girl Scouts from Troop1261 from Tallmadge in Summit County.

“This is a great program that benefits everybody,” said Linda DeJoe, a retired Litter Control and Recycling program manager and event volunteer.
