Symposium on racism planned June 9 by 3 sponsoring groups


YOUNGSTOWN — A Jacob’s Well symposium on racism, “The Spirit of Unity through Relationship, Reconciliation and Redemption: A 4 Real Dialogue on Race,” is planned June 9 at the Salvation Army Center, 1501 Glenwood Ave. Sponsors are the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Youngstown, Baptist Pastor’s Council and the Center for Working-Class Studies at Youngstown State University.

The event will start at 5:30 p.m. with registration then praise and worship at 6 followed by presentations and small groups at 6:15.

Among presenters will be the Revs. Julius Davis, Mark Geppert, Jim Ray, Gena Thornton and Elder Cynthia Wright-Palmer.

The program is an opportunity for church leaders from cities and suburbs and all denominations to discuss with one another racism and the divisions that it creates in the faith community.

The Rev. Robert Johnson is chairman of the free program.
