BOARDMAN — A spring concert is planned at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Drive, featuring the Bethel Sanctuary Choir, By Faith Alone praise band and soloists. A free-will offering will go to the 2008 youth mission trip this summer to Beaufort, S.C.

St. Columba Feast Day

YOUNGSTOWN — Bishop George V. Murry will preside at solemn vespers at 6 p.m. June 8 at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., in honor of St. Columba, whose Feast Day is June 9.

As St. Columba is the patron saint of both the cathedral and the Diocese of Youngstown, the Feast Day is celebrated within the diocese as a solemnity.

The vespers service will feature the Cathedral Choir, directed by Dr. Daniel Laginya, with Joseph Petros as organist and Kirk Kupensky, harpist. Petros also will present a recital beginning at 5:30, which will serve as a prelude. The service will be followed by a reception in the cathedral hall.

Professionals Partnering with Christ plan meeting

YOUNGSTOWN — Professionals Partnering with Christ will meet at noon Thursday at the Youngstown Club in the Commerce Building.

The Rev. Gary Frost of New York, former pastor of Rising Star Baptist Church, will be guest speaker. He is director of Emerging Leadership for the New York City Leadership Center, an outgrowth of Concerts of Prayer Greater New York. The Rev. Mr. Frost was co-chairman of the Spiritual Board of Overseers of the Greater Youngstown Coalition of Christians, president of the board of Eagle Heights Academy and president of the Board of Warriors Inc.

St. John Chrysostom

AUSTINTOWN — The Society of St. John Chrysostom, Youngstown-Warren Chapter, will present the program “John Henry Cardinal Newman and the Development of Christian Doctrine” at 7 p.m. June 10 at St. Joseph Church, 4545 New Road.

Guest speaker will be the Rev. J. Patrick Manning, institutional rector and vice president at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus. The program is free and open to all. The society is an ecumenical organization of Catholic and Orthodox clergy and laity.

Rosary cenacle planned

YOUNGSTOWN — The Shrine of Our Lady, Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., and Queen of the Holy Rosary Prayer Group will have a rosary cenacle at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Refreshments will follow in the social hall.

Vote for video

YOUNGSTOWN — Votes will be accepted until midnight Sunday in the Youth Mission Initiative Video Challenge sponsored by the Presbyterian Church USA. The youth group and Sunday school at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, 3919 Southern Blvd., entered “Acceptance ?”

Fellowship banquet

HUBBARD — Jesus is the Way World Outreach Ministries will have a Christian family fellowship banquet at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Brentford House, 737 Myron St. The Rev. Clyde Cooper of Union City, Pa., will speak. He is pastor of Henderson Chapel in Titusville, Pa., and will soon open a new church, Disciples of Faith Ministry, in the Union City and Waterford, Pa., area.

Pastoral anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN — Mount Zion Baptist Church, 827 Wilson Ave., will celebrate the 18th pastoral anniversary of the Rev. Jack W. Pettis at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Rev. Melvin Wilson of St. John the Baptist Church, Lawrence, Pa., will be guest speaker, and its choir will perform.

Also participating are Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Niles and Christian Love Missionary Baptist and Antioch Baptist churches. The theme is “The Steps of a Good Man are Ordered by the Lord.”

Special musical program

BOARDMAN — The Chancel Choir of Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., will present “O Sing Unto the Lord” by George Frederich Handel during the service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

The text from Psalm 96 will be featured. Performers will be Dr. Anne Bentz, soprano soloist; William Ambert, tenor soloist; Kathryn Walker and Susan Brenneis Fisher, violins; Michael Gelfand, cello; Shawn Reynolds, oboe; and Anne Gillis, bassoon. Kathryn Miller, church organist, also will participate.

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Ellwood City Chorale will present a free concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at Free Methodist Community Church, 9900 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road.

Musical praise

YOUNGSTOWN — Glorybound and the Noble Family will praise God with gospel music during a service at 11 a.m. Sunday at Coitsville Presbyterian Church, 91 Coitsville-Hubbard Road.

Christian motorcyclists

HERMITAGE, Pa. — The New Castle, Pa., branch of the Christian Motorcycle Association, O-pen Son Riders, will ride as a group to the service at 10:30 a.m. June 8 at Living Word Church, 1109 E. State St. The association is a nonprofit interdenominational organization. A cookout will follow the service.

CAMPBELL — Shenango Valley Baptist Association will have a fellowship meeting at 7 p.m. Friday at Greater Liberty Baptist Church, 66 10th St.
