Liberty teen group raises funds for Darfur

LIBERTY — A group of Liberty High School students started out with a modest goal that eventually grew and expanded threefold.

The Global Action and Awareness group wanted to raise $5,000 to buy a well for a refugee camp in Darfur. After several weeks of fundraising, the group has raised $15,000 and plans to send enough money to the Darfur region in the western Sudan in Africa to build three wells.

Julia Aromatorio, 16, and Darby O’Donnell, 17, started the Global Action and Awareness group at the school last year to bring attention to global issues. The conflict in Darfur was the group’s first concern.
