Titanic life preserver likely to fetch $60,000-$80,000 on June 25

NEW YORK (AP) — A life preserver from the ill-fated R.M.S. Titanic is going on the auction block next month in Manhattan. It is believed to be one of about six that remain.

Christie’s auction house says it is the first one to be offered at auction in the United States. It is expected to fetch $60,000 to $80,000 at the June 25 sale.

According to Christie’s catalog, the vest contains water, oil and possibly blood stains. The vest was found during the initial recovery effort after the April 14, 1912, disaster. Another Titanic life preserver was sold at Christie’s in London last year for $119,000.
