R. Frank Huntley, 1926-2008

R. Frank Huntley, 1926-2008

R. Frank Huntley was a quiet-spoken man who let his accomplishments speak for themselves. And those accomplishments spoke volumes about Huntley.

Huntley was born and reared in rural Trumbull County, but he made his mark in Youngstown.

After graduating from Brookfield High School, he did what millions of his generation did, he served in the Army during World War II, in both the European and Pacific theaters.

And like millions of others, following the war he made the effort to improve himself through education. But unlike many, he used his education for the benefit of others. Huntley earned a bachelor’s degree at Youngstown State University and a master’s degree from the University of Akron. He worked in city planning and at the YSU Center for Urban Studies.

But it was outside the office that Huntley made his biggest mark. He provided service and leadership to more than a dozen civic and charitable boards.

His friends at The Vindicator knew him best for his indefatigable work on behalf of the Buckeye Elks and its Youth Development Center. His efforts there and his work for the J. Ford Crandall Memorial Scholarship Fund and Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County were only three of the ways in which Frank Huntley had a positive effect on hundreds of young lives in the city. Those lives, made better through his gift of time and talent, are a legacy that will endure far into the future.
