Lordstown GM workers vote on pact next week

LORDSTOWN — Union workers at the General Motors’ assembly plant in Lordstown will vote Monday and Tuesday on a new local labor contract.

If the deal is approved, steps that lead to a new product for the plant will begin happening rapidly, Jim Graham, president of United Auto Workers Local 1112, said at a news conference this morning.

UAW officials and plant management reached a tentative agreement on the three-year deal Wednesday. GM is said to be looking at bringing both a new small car and mid-size model to the plant.

Ben Strickland, Local 1112 shop chairman, said he hopes this will put an end to questions about the plant’s future for the next 10 to 15 years.
