Decline and Growth

Statistics on the signs of a poor economy as shown by the Ohio Department of Education for the two largest cities in the county. The statistics show there are fewer students, but more students qualify for free or reduced school lunches.

Salem Schools

2003: 2,585 students total. Of that total, 634 students, or 34.5 percent, were eligible for free or reduced lunches.

2007: 2,180 students total. Of that total, 864 students, or 39.3 percent, were eligible for free or reduced lunches.

East Liverpool Schools

2003: 3,538 students total. Of that total, 1,520 students, or 42.9 percent, were eligible for free or reduced lunches.

2007: 2,500 students total. Of that total, 1,757 students, or 70.2 percent, were eligible for free or reduced lunches.
