Vindy bee representative misspells movimento

YOUNGSTOWN — The Vindicator’s representative at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., misspelled the word given to her in round two of today’s preliminary competition.

Hannah Stang Gerdes of Hubbard was given the word movimento, but spelled it movamento. The word, derived from Italian, means movement.

She could still advance to the quarterfinals, depending upon how she did in the first round of preliminary competition, which involved a written test of 25 words.

Announcement of those results and the quarterfinalists are to be made later this afternoon.
