Renowned accordionist in concert at church

YOUNGSTOWN — Accordionist Mary Tokarski will present a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 421 Covington St.

Tokarski has twice represented the United States in the Coupe Mondiale world accordion championships, and tours internationally as a soloist. She recently released a solo CD of her performances with the New Zealand and Auckland Symphony Orchestras.

Tokarski is also known for her ensemble performances as a member of the K Trio, which includes her sister, Julie, and brother, Walter. The trio gave a recital as guests of the New Music Guild in Youngstown several years ago. The Guild is co-sponsoring Tokarski’s upcoming visit.

Known as a music educator, she founded the Tokarski Music Center in Connecticut, where she taught piano and accordion, conducted choral and ensemble programs, and served as owner and director.
