GOP fields new candidate in 1st District

STAFF REPORT

LISBON — Caroline Hergenrother is in as the new Republican candidate in the 1st District state representative’s race, and Sharmain Daub is out.

David Johnson, Columbiana County Republican Party chairman, said Tuesday that Daub had bowed out of the race because she “wanted to spend more time with her family.”

Hergenrother, of Salem, has served on an advisory council to the Kent State University branch near Salem.

The candidate will face incumbent Democrat Linda Bolon of Columbiana.

Daub, of New Waterford, announced her campaign in January. She was unopposed in the primary. It was apparently her first run for office.

Daub said she had been a police officer in Lisbon since 1997. She did not return a call to comment.
