McCune Park is home to the Canfield Baseball Club (CBC) which has more than 650 players and about 500 families. With 10 fields, two of which are lit, and a batting barn with electric pitching machines, the facility services 59 teams each week. Youths ages 5 through 14 make up the 41 boys and 18 girls teams.

McCune Park is also home to the YSU softball team which plays on Field 4.

President of the CBC, Nick D’Alesio, thinks the club is influential in the community and is happy with the progress during his two years as president.

“Our donation and volunteer base has tripled since a few years ago,” he said.

kCBC mission: To instill the values of sportsmanship, respect, loyalty, and honesty in the children of the community who participate and to teach the fundamentals of the game, while encouraging discipline and responsibility.

kTimeline:1960s -Was organized in 1960 by Howard Tieche and Forrest Renkenberger and became incorporated in 1961. September 1964 marked the 40-acre construction which is now McCune Park. In 1966 more fields were added and in 1967 the original clubhouse was built.

1970s - Girls softball was introduced in 1974. In 1977, the property was turned over from Ray McCune Sr. to CBC Inc.

1980s - Hosted first tournament in 1980. Nine fields were in use by 1982, and 1985 marked the club’s 25th anniversary. Also in 1985, the batting barn was built. In 1986, tee-ball was added.

1990s - Softball, including fastpitch, was expanded in 1992. In 1996, Canfield’s 9-10 boys won a state championship, and the 11-12 boys won a title in 1998 and were televised on ESPN2.

2000s - Before the 2000 season, the maintenance garage, concession stand, office, and equipment were lost in fires. The season continued. It was the first time an Ohio little league club won three titles in a single year. The 11-12 girls fastpitch team won the state championship in 2002. In 2003 the administration building opened. And in 2004 recycled material bleachers that hold 1,200 fans were added to Field 4.
